The name CERN is derived from Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (in french) or European Council for Nuclear Research (in english), which was founded in 1952. It is the biggest center of fundamental physics where people are trying to find out what makes our Universe work, from where it came and where it is going. At CERN, by colliding particles physicists reveal the basic laws of nature. CERN’s main function is to provide the particle accelerators and other infrastructure needed for high-energy physics research. CERN is not only famous for physics but is also the birth place of the World Wide Web.
I, Neha Goyal was a regular student of M. Tech 1st year (CSE) when Prof. R. K. Shivpuri asked us for our resumes for a 10 month internship in CERN. He shortlisted 3 students for the internship program. At CERN I got to know Dr. Manoj Jha who helped us a lot in settling things. He contacted our supervisors and arranged meetings so that we could start our project.
My supervisors were Dr. Dario Barberis who is ATLAS database coordinator and Dr. Andrea Valassi who is in CERN IT department and team leader of database access framework project. During the meeting they explained about my work which was in ATLAS database.
